P49MSO HP 10MDue to visitors, my time was somewhat restricted. Next year I will compensate accordingly. Hi Hi.
PA3DMHSO LP 20MTVI brought me closer to my neighbours again.. Hi.
PA3GABSO LP ALLNice conditions and even a low windom antenna (20 feet) works on 160M. Less time than previous year but bigger score.
PB0ANRSO LP ALLSome strong stations were bad in receiving/operating, some low signals took me at first time
PY2DJSO LP ALLThis is my first contest WPX that I participate which I had opportunity to work several countries and special prefixes.
RK9CWWMSHAll of the team enjoyed WPX very much with the exception of one operator, who absolutely lost is voice during the contest. That was the reason for our sometimes strange signal.
S50RSO HP 15MNice contest! I was sorry that first day I was working only with LP 100W, so next day I tested the linears.
S51ASO HP 15MI am totally satisfied with my second contest ever. 73 and see you in the CW with longer boom!
S53RSO HP 15MBand died out and recovered again for at least 3 times Sunday afternoon. What a mess Papa Sun's making up there!
S57MSA HP 160MNice contest but poor cond to USA.
S59ZASO HP ALLMuch better conditions than 1997. Nice to see 15 open to whole USA inc. W6/W7. USA on 10 meters only from Florida but a lot of South American multipliers makes this band interesting.
TS5IMSHThis Dxpedition has been planned for the WPX contest from I5. Tnx to every guy for the non-stop pile-up during all the contest and thanks to the Tunisian friends for kindly hospitality.
U1BASO LP ALLGood conditions, except for 10m band. My first CQ WW contest was in 1956 as UA1KBB, then since 1965, as UW1BM, later as U1BA. Every time had a great fun.
UA0SJSO LP ALLI have many new contacts and have good DX.
UP5FSO LP ALLI was happy to use my special contest callsign first time.
VE3BMV/1SO HP 160MLooked like another wipeout condx for the weekend, but the second night band opened to Europe to beat the record. TS870 mods and DSP helped to fight QRN, thanks to those who persisted.
VE3DOSO HP 160MWas propagation down or was there less activity? El-nino - el stinko this year!
VE3KZSO HP 10MI don't know whether praise or pity is appropriate for any soul that tried to tame ten from this latitude. Could have used a fixed array pointing SE and worked 99%. Even when the band opened "directly" to Europe, the path for all but the CT's and EA's was still bent to due East.
VE3MISMSHWe fielded a record 23 operators for our second contest ever at the club station. Everyone had fun, including VA3PIE and VA3QMX who won the "VE3MIS persistent loggers award".
VE3STTSO LP ALLHigher bands opened nicely (especially 10m on Sunday afternoon).
VE3WIBSO LP ALLA personal best. Enjoyed it very much. Looking forward to the next one.
VE3ZZSA LP ALLLots of activity and reasonable conditions. What more could one ask?
VE7YJSO LP ALLDoubled the number of DU's worked in the last 30 years during the last 30 minutes I was on the air.
VK2ARJSO HP ALLA great way to celebrate the beginning of a new cycle, a veritable smorgasbord of "goodies"! We can look back and say "WPX was really great in '98".
VK3IOSO HP ALLGave out numbers to those who were calling CQ, time permitting. Lot of fun, some new countries worked, great conditions on higher bands.
VK8AVSO HP ALLI can see where the poet got the inspiration for the expression: EMPTY VESSELS MAKE THE MOST NOISE! He listened to a SSB contest.
VO1WETSO HP 10MOnly my third major test. Hope to take part in many more.
VR98BGSO HP 10MSurprised not to work any NA on 28 Mc.
W0AHSO LP 10MWorked all continents the first 24 hours, but band barely opened the 2nd 24!
W2FGYSO LP ALLAt age 82, I can't spend as much time on the air.
W2YRSA HP ALLVisit my station on the internet at http://members.aol.com/w2yr/w2yr.htm
W7YAQSO LP ALLLots of interesting DX out there. Got a late start Friday night but when finally got up to the shack and turned on the rig, it was tuned exactly on A61AJ who was booming through at 59+10. Promptly worked him on my first call for an all-time new one!
W8AEF/7SO HP ALLIt was a thrill working V8JA on 75 meters Sunday morning. Another highlight was the wild ride 15 meters came up with on Sunday afternoon. Europe was coming in at 120 degrees, Mexico at 90 degrees, South America, the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii and the South Pacific all at the same time
W8QZA/6SO QRP 40MGot the boys on H4 on 40 meters with my 5 watts and low dipole. Three days later it becomes a new country, I'll never get them after that.
W9IWSO HP ALLMy warmest thanks to Jim, W9IW and his dad John for their wonderful hospitality. Three hot meals a day, served right in the shack, and good propagation - what else could a contester want? The rates dropped a little while trying to eat the steaks during the 15 meter run (no DVP). Great experience to work the contest from this side of the Atlantic.
WB7OCV/2SO QRP 20MThought it was all over with when a cold front ripped through with 70+ mph winds! When I opened my eyes, I looked out the shack window and my vertical said Let's Go!
WB8TLISO HP ALLBest score ever. Thanks sunspots and computer logging.
WF1LSO LP ALLKT34XA stopped working at 2300Z Saturday. Would not take power AND would not hear. Sunday while lowering the tower found that the coax had a huge slice in it. Center conductor pushed thru the braid and outer skin causing dead short. Rather than try to fix it, I went on the wire and did 15 & 10 also.
WI0WASO HP 15MSeveral people asked what state I was in. When told to look a the callsign they said "Oh, IOWA!". This gave several of the G's a good chuckle
WO4OSO LP ALLMy third time playing in this game SO/AB/LP; nearly tripled my 1997 score. I exceeded my goal, which was to pass the 987,936 points produced last year by USA leader WA4ZXA.
WS7VSO LP ALLNothing but birdies on 10 meters until I disabled the garage door opener and plucked some LU's.
WV2LIMSHThanks to all who worked us! 15 meters was great! Can't wait for 10 to fully open - come on sunspots!
WW4RRSO HP 15MLots of fun, wish I could have put in more time in the contest.
WY9LSO HP ALLThanks for a more level playing field. Used a tribander at 25 feet fixed on Europe with no rotor and a vertical for the low bands.
YB2LABSO LP 15MThe WPX contest is one of my favorite contests.
YB3ZESMSHIt is our first international contest. Very excited.
YM2ZWSO HP 20MDid much better than last year but can not be satisfied. Lost a lot of US mults - a small 3 bander laying on the roof fixed to EU is not the best antenna for serious contesting. Although condx were not bad, never got a real pile-up.
YO5CMWSO LP ALLThis is my first WPX contest.
YU7SFSO LP ALLThis was my 23rd CQ WW WPX SSB contest and my 1996th contest log entry at all.
YV2IFSO HP 160MPropagation was not in 160 tunnel in my location.
